Warming from CO2 is a flawed theory...

-

I NOTICED in two recent viewpoints posts from Margaret Brown and Marc Hudson (Manchester climate emergency) that they both seem worried about CO2 causing warming. They seem unaware that this theory has been debunked. A study released this week by experts at Barcelona University revealed that the Roman Warming period from 1 AD to 500 AD was the hottest period in the past 2000 years, CO2 levels were lower than now but the climate was much hotter.

This corresponds well with the Roman conquest of England where meticulous – primary source diaries – recorded varieties of grapes grown in Scotland that can now no longer grow due to today’s temperatures being too low. Similar studies in Germany show wines growing in further northerly lattitudes not possible now.

The idea that CO2 causes warming is a very old and flawed theory by Arrenhuis from the 19th century and promoted by the UN who’s climate model predictions are wildly inaccurate.

Wear a mask out of respect

YESTERDAY I was in my favourite local shop. None of the other customers were wearing a mask. The shopkeeper, from behind a plastic sheen, told me that about 80% of customers that day hadn’t, and were basically saying “you can’t make me”.

Then I read Paul Brunton’s letter (Viewpoints, M.E.N., July 27) based on anecdote and pseudoscience and I despair.

Masks are simply a mark of respect for people who have no choice but to work in enclosed spaces being breathed on by everyone else. If you have any concern for people other than yourself, you will wear a mask when doing your shopping, regardless of whether shopkeepers are able to enforce the rules.

When you don’t wear a mask in enclosed spaces, you are sending a message – that you have contempt for other people’s safety.

There are exemptions

IF you looked at me, you might not notice my disability – a lot of people don’t. But I have autism, and because I am classed as disabled and therefore find it difficult to wear a face mask, I am exempt from being required to wear one, in line with official government guidance.

But I have suffered discrimination, verbal abuse and humiliation for not wearing a face mask on public transport.

A lack of understanding of hidden disabilities and the exemption rules means thousands of people like me, many who are more vulnerable, are unfairly threatened and feel unwelcome and unsafe in society.

Face masks are now required in shops and supermarkets too, so unless something changes there will be more instances like what I experienced, and in more settings. I want to make sure no one else like me is made to feel that their disability isn’t valid, or isn’t believed.

Today, with Dimensions we are sending letters to ministers asking them to emphasise the exemption rules and encourage staff and the public to think twice before you challenge someone.

We all want society to be as safe as possible. But we also need to protect the people that can’t wear a face mask, through no fault of their own.

Why should they pay?

CONSIDERING the most recent health statistic revealed this week, that watching more than two hours TV is a risk, who would want to watch the constant repeats for hours and hours? Many people cannot afford to buy TV packages, just the normal channels.

To top it all, the BBC now wants the over 75 year-olds to rebuy a licence to watch the same old stuff, yet continue to spend endless millions on retaining celebs and countless questionable projects!

Whilst the rest of us have to put up and shut up, all of this is a total disgrace considering the bigger picture of what is going on. With the self-isolation and shielding, many of these people will only have their TV for company.

Opening is a great moment

ON Tuesday, July 21 the Lord Mayor of Manchester. along with local councillors and Eric Wright and construction staff. all turned out to officially open and launch the new road bridge on the A57 Hyde Road in Gorton – which is part of the Fallowfield loop Manchester cycle way with the widening road scheme near to Reddish bridge on its way to the Denton roundabout motorway.

I would just like to thank all concerned for such a special launch day of the bridge in the midst of the road widening.
