-

SOCIAL distancing measures are still in place but Greater Manchester school leavers and adults considering a career change can find out all they need to know about their next steps.

Following the overwhelming success of an event in May, Hopwood Hall College is lining up its second virtual open event to showcase its campuses and answer questions about courses and college life. You’ll be able to find out all you need to know and get a feel for being a student there, all without leaving your home.

Taking place on August 6, the event will be packed with information for parents, prospective students and adult learners about full and part-time studying options. It’s also an opportunity to find out about the range of flexible distance learning, access courses and higher education opportunities available.

There will be short films and talks from tutors as well as a chance to hear from the current students, ensuring the event will tell you all you need to know.

Hopwood Hall College has campuses in Middleton and Rochdale and is not just a place for school leavers. It has a wide variety of courses for adults who are considering a new career or wanting to learn a new skill, with study options that can fit around other personal and family commitments.

HOW WILL SOCIAL DISTANCING AFFECT LEARNING?

It’s natural to be apprehensive about starting life at a new college, but you won’t have to worry about how social distancing can impede your learning.

With two campuses in Rochdale and Middleton courses are divided up, so there won’t be any worry about overcrowded hallways or packed classrooms. The large 70-acre University Centre at the Middleton campus, which is home to a varied range of Higher Education options, is nestled into the woodlands and gives students a chance to work in smaller classes.

The spacious campus and small groups that are already in place are said to be well suited for face-to-face learning while social distancing measures are still in place, giving students a more personal approach to studying and group work rather than relying on online learning.

Remodelling has taken place to adapt the Technology Centre at the Middleton campus, which features a state-of-the-art learning resource centre.

Meanwhile the thriving Rochdale campus in the heart of the town has also recently been remodelled, and provides some opportunities which involve partially studying away from the site. For example, apprenticeships are available for people who are looking to earn a wage while learning by working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills.

THERE’S A WIDE RANGE OF COURSES TO CHOOSE FROM

Hopwood Hall College offers an extensive choice of courses to cater for every interest, from building trades and engineering courses to health and beauty qualifications.

With both full and part-time courses available, students attending the virtual open event can learn more about the different pathways on offer.

These include online learning and higher education for those who want to earn a university-level degree or learn a valuable new skill.

For fans of technology, the games development and graphic design courses will allow you to get hands on with industry standard software.

Animal lovers can gain practical work experience on campus, as the animal management and veterinary nursing courses at the University Centre will provide access to more than 600 on-site animals.

The course list is constantly expanding to bring new and exciting courses to Hopwood Hall College. This September will see the launch of new higher education options including a HNC in policing, and HNC or HND courses in business.

If you’re simply looking to make the most of your free time or you’re looking to enhance your skills and knowledge from home, Hopwood Hall College is also offering free online courses for you to expand your horizons. Available to anyone from the age of 19 to 99+, there is a variety of courses from customer care to digital marketing training.

The virtual open event will take place between 4pm and 7pm on Thursday, August 6. To attend, simply register at www.hopwood.ac.uk
