KDB still behind Toure as talisman that drove Blues
JOLEON Lescott has insisted Kevin De Bruyne is yet to eclipse Yaya Toure’s best season at City despite equalling the Premier League record for most assists in a season.
The Belgian playmaker has been in extraordinary form this term, finishing the campaign level with Thierry Henry’s record of 20 Premier League assists. That has highlighted De Bruyne as one of the world’s best midfielders on current form after taking over from David Silva as the heartbeat of City.
His current form has left Lescott in no doubt that with a few more years at the same level, he will earn a place alongside Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard as Premier League legend.
However, despite his performances this season, Lescott still believe Toure’s effort of 20 goals from midfield in 13/14, which catapulted City to the title, was a better individual showing than De Bruyne this season.
“What he’s doing and the impact he’s having on every game is remarkable. He’s setting a new standard,” Lescott said.
“The era of Gerrard and Lampard – some great players in the Premier League era – but what Kevin De
Bruyne’s doing is remarkable.
“I think if he continues to do this for another three or four years, he’s in the conversation (of Premier League greats).”
However, when quizzed whether De Bruyne’s impact at City eclipses Toure, he said: “No. He’s got to do it for a little bit longer.
“Yaya’s best season outweighs Kevin’s (best season). He scored 20 goals in that season, in 13/14.”
