Pogba won’t leave United this summer, says Saha
PAUL Pogba is happy at United and will sign a new contract at the club, his fellow countryman Louis Saha has predicted.
After being consistently linked with a move away from the Reds amid interest from Real Madrid, the World Cup winner now appears content under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after building a strong partnership with Bruno Fernandes in midfield.
The 27-year-old’s contract is set to expire in June, though United have the option to extend for an extra 12 months.
But former Reds striker Saha, speaking exclusively to the Football Index Podcast, believes there are no immediate worries about Pogba leaving the club.
“I think Paul Pogba has been given a new lease of life now that Manchester United has signed Bruno Fernandes,” he said.
“Pogba is very motivated by Fernandes and having him in the midfield next to him has given him more freedom and far more options on the ball.”
Saha believes Pogba was criticised too often before Fernandes’ arrival, but that the situation is more healthy with both players sharing the responsibility in Solskjaer’s side.
He added: “He has also benefitted massively by now being able to share the spotlight with Fernandes both when Manchester United are playing well, but more importantly when they have a bad result too.
”The scrutiny on Paul Pogba was relentless and he was always to blame for a poor Manchester United performance, it was very unfair and fortunately there is now someone else to help shoulder that responsibility.
“Pogba had become tired of being crucified every time Manchester United had a poor game, but I think he is happy now and I hope he will sign a new contract because he is a world class player.”
