Tributes as much-loved nurse dies suddenly

-

STAFF at Wythenshawe Hospital have paid tribute to a former colleague who died suddenly.

Julian Lewis worked as a charge nurse in the A&E department of the hospital for four years. He died ‘suddenly and tragically’ on Sunday, colleagues said.

He was described as ‘selfless, thoughtful and funny’ and his colleagues said he would be ‘sadly missed’ at the hospital.

Work friends said Mr Lewis ‘dedicated his life to serving people’ throughout his career, working in the military then for the NHS. Paying tribute on a Just Giving page, colleagues added that he was a ‘true warrior and gentleman’.

“On Sunday we suddenly and tragically lost one of our kin, Charge Nurse Julian Lewis,” colleagues said.

“A man who dedicated his life to serving the people of his country through both the military and the NHS, doing so with positivity, enthusiasm and motivation. Julian was unique as both a man and a leader, quite, unflappable, stoic, knowledgeable and a true warrior and gentleman. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten by his Wythenshawe A&E family.

“Stand easy brother your shift is done. Wishing love and eternal peace, RIP from all your work family.”

Mandy Bailey, chief executive at Wythenshawe Hospital, part of

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Julian was a compassionate, skilled and experienced Charge Nurse working in our Emergency Department at Wythenshawe Hospital since 2016, and a nurse who was selfless, thoughtful and funny. Julian was extremely well thought of and is a great loss to our team at Wythenshawe and to the nursing profession; he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family at this very sad time.”

Julian’s colleagues have set up a fundraising page in his memory. More than £5,000 has been raised so far to support his family.
