SHARPFUTURES AND ITV HAVE CREATED A BESPOKE COURSE OPEN TO A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICANTS

-

DO YOU know your way around a spreadsheet or are you perhaps noted for your organisational skills? Are you at a career crossroads and don’t know which way to turn? Do you think it is too late to change direction and feel that the world has passed you by?

THINK AGAIN... AND READ ON

It is almost certainly not the case and a new transition bootcamp developed by Newton Heath-based social enterprise SharpFutures and ITV may well hold the key to unlocking the next phase of a rewarding working life.

Times are changing fast and many people are at a point where they need to take stock before they can move forwards. For many, the idea of the creative digital and tech world can sound closed off, but the fact is that this expanding sector is happy to welcome people of all ages and experience who bring with them transferable skills, knowledge and experience.

Working with the Future Skills Fund and GMCA, SharpFutures has created this bespoke course to give candidates a greater chance to gain work by reimagining and re-purposing the numerous skills that are always required and will never go out of fashion.

SharpFutures has also widened its net to welcome a broader age range. Recognised primarily for working with young people, this extends the company’s ambition to include a wider demographic.

SharpFutures CEO Rose Marley said: “People don’t realise how valuable their experience is and how relevant it is to transfer skills from, for example, gaming to animation, theatre to television, construction to location management, engineering to tech.

“It’s all about the language. If you’re on time and on budget the same project management principles apply but the mystifying language of grips, dojos, devs or grading, machine rooms and DITs put people off when they have the skills and capability all along.”

A spokesperson for ITV said: “Longterm investment in talent and skills is something ITV continues to find ways to invest in. As the working landscape rapidly changes transferable skills are increasingly important as is ensuring we employ people from diverse backgrounds, our industry needs to represent our audience.

“We are delighted to once again work with Sharp Futures on this course.”

On completion of the course, candidates will be interviewed to join SharpFutures POD. This provides a really successful, next-level way of working to gain paid experience in an industry often perceived to be exclusive and difficult to enter.

This course, which is based at the internationallyrecognised Sharp Project, one of the first Tech Hubs created, is free for the right candidates and applying couldn’t be easier.

There is financial support available to provide some fully sponsored places at real living wage levels, as well as travel and childcare support.

This could be the start of you becoming involved in the building of a new future for yourself and the wider world. The flexibility and attitudes needed for industry 4.0, the gig economy have all been amplified by the pandemic and it is never too late to become a part of this.
