TWO ARRESTS AS BABY FOUND DEAD
NEIGHBOURS LEFT SHATTERED AFTER BABY IS FOUND AT HOUSE AND COUPLE ARRESTED
A MAN and woman have been arrested on suspicion of neglect after a fourmonth-old baby was found dead at a house.
Police were called to a report of a sudden death on Buckley Lane in Rochdale in the early hours of Monday morning.
A four-month-old baby was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A woman, aged 27, and a man, aged 39, have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
They have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Pictures taken at the scene yesterday morning show an officer standing guard outside a house on Buckley Lane.
One police car was stationed on the road.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 3.15am on 22 February to a report of a sudden death on Buckley Lane in
Rochdale. Emergency services attended but sadly a four-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A 27-year-old woman and a 39-yearold man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and bailed pending further enquiries. “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the death.”
Neighbours have told of their shock after the arrests. Neighbours said officers had been at the scene constantly since Monday. One person said: “I’m in shock – I am lost for words.” Another resident said: “I went out to work at 7am on Monday and the police were there then.
“They’ve been there ever since 24/7 – at least one officer all the time.” And another neighbour said: “The police have been there all week. “They’ve knocked on every door but no-one knows what’s gone on.
“It’s awful.
“It’s just so sad.”
