OLDHAM boss Harry Kewell hailed his side’s second half comeback following their 3-1 win at Carlisle United on Saturday.

Three goals in 15 minutes from Marcel Hilssner, Dylan Bahamboula and Carl Piergianni saw the Latics snatch three points late on at Brunton Park after Josh Kayode had put the hosts ahead in the first half.

“The way that my team came out in the second half was fantastic,” Kewell said at full-time. “We matched them on the physical side, in heading, on second balls and then our quality shone.

“We picked a few moments in the first which we weren’t happy with, changed a few things around and the attitude was phenomenal.”

The hosts opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time, as Kayode latched onto a ball into the box from a corner and headed past Ian Lawlor.

Oldham made several changes in the second half and were level on 71 minutes when Hilssner converted from the spot after Nicky Adams’s cross was handled in the area.

Minutes later, forward Bahamboula produced an impressive solo strike, taking on the Carlisle defence and curling into the far corner to put his side ahead.

And they sealed the win with four minutes left to play, as Piergianni powered home a header from Adams’s corner.

“I felt that we needed the break, which we got with the penalty, then I could only see one winner from there,” Kewell added.

“Everyone keeps saying the same old things [about recent results], just let these boys just go out and play.

“We’re trying, we’re working hard. I know we’ve disappointed people but we try and correct it as a team and that’s what I like.

“Let them enjoy it and work hard, put the effort and desire in because that’s what we got today.”
