‘I won’t let United rumours distract me’

-

EINTRACHT Frankfurt striker Andre Silva admits he is aware of reported interest from Manchester United, after recent links with the Old Trafford club.

Anthony Martial’s poor form and Edinson Cavani’s contract situation have seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side touted as a potential destination for the Portugal international in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has netted an impressive 20 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this season, with his stunning form earning him rave reviews.

Silva joined Frankfurt from AC Milan, originally on loan in 2019, before making the move permanent at the beginning of the current campaign, signing a three-year deal.

Silva admits he has heard about the speculation, but does not want to be distracted.

“I’ve heard rumours, but that is it. Rumours are rumours”, Silva told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, via Sport Witness.

“At the end of this season, it’s something that gives me more motivation to work, it’s a sign that what I have accomplished has borne fruit and the path has been good.”

When asked him how much is he worth in the current transfer market, Silva joked: “Around 105 million? I’m kidding. I think I heard 30 and something somewhere... when we sell our merchandise, we always increase the value a little bit.

“Things are as they are and, whatever happens around us, the most important thing is to look at me and what I can do.”

PEP Guardiola insists Eric Garcia’s recent absences from the City squad have been purely down to rotation.

Garcia is out of contract in the summer and has told City that he will not sign a new deal.

The club declined a summer offer from Barcelona as it was below their valuation, while Barca opted against a January approach knowing Garcia is available for free in six months.

Guardiola insists Garcia’s lack of playing time is down to City having too many options now available in defence - and nothing more.

He said: “Eric Garcia is like a son. He was a guy last season that after lockdown was our best central defender.

“He’s going to play in Barcelona and that is not an average player - he is a top player.

“He was not selected in the last two games and it broke my heart.”
