A CORONATION Street star has told how he went to help a homeless man after he was injured by a tram.

Trevor Michael Georges, who plays Ed Bailey in the ITV soap, has been hailed a hero after he stayed with the man until an ambulance came.

The actor, whose character arrived in Weatherfield with his family in June 2019, was shopping in Manchester when he saw the man being dragged under a tram, he told followers on Twitter.

“Went shopping in Manchester only to see a homeless guy dragged under a tram,” he said.

“Gave him a fag and stayed with him till the ambulance came. Stay safe people please!”

Updating his followers the star said: “He’s in the ambulance (with a packet of fags from me). Stay safe Atius. I hope your day gets better.”

And he added: “Shout out to the tram driver too.

“Wasn’t his fault but the poor guy was really shaken.”

Georgia Taylor who plays Toyah Battersby said: “Oh god love that’s awful! Hope he’s going to be ok.

“Glad you were there to help. Traumatic for you to see that too xxx”

And Trevor replied: “He was banged up but on his feet (eventually, out cold to begin with). Could have been MUCH worse. X”

“Oh my goodness. That’s awful. I hope he’s ok and you too,” said another follower.

“You’re wonderful looking after him like that. Stay safe.”

And another told him: “A friend of mine said she saw this from afar and thought the worst. Glad you were close by to help out Trev!”

Trevor’s character Ed has been at the centre of big storylines including his gambling addiction and his youngest son James coming out to him as gay.

He was recently joined on the street by his brother Ronnie, played by Vinta Morgan. When the new family was introduced a delighted Trevor said: “I have never allowed myself to imagine being part of such a massive icon in television history.

“I grew up with Ena Sharples, Stan and Hilda Ogden and Elsie Tanner as did my family, my neighbourhood and the entire country. To look at a script where Edison Bailey is chatting away with Ken Barlow couldn’t be any more humbling and a bit scary.”
