Elderly woman is cut free from car after road smash

OASIS GIG CONTRACT CALLING FOR ‘QUALITY FOOD AND DRINK’ AND ‘SOBER STAFF’ UP FOR AUCTION

- By RICHARD VERNALLS

TWO people were taken to hospital following a car crash.

A woman in her 70s was cut free from the wreckage by firefighters after two vehicles collided in Hazel Grove, Stockport.

She was taken to hospital with a head injury.

A man in his 50s was also taken to hospital with a chest injury following the incident on Bramhall Moor Lane at around 11am yesterday.

Pictures from the scene show a red car within the cordon with its roof removed.

A police spokesperson said yesterday: “Officers were called to a report of a road traffic collision between two vehicles on Bramhall Moor Lane, Hazel Grove, Stockport, at 11.14am today.”

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: “Two patients were taken to hospital - a man in his 50s suffered a chest injury and a woman in her 70s suffered a head injury and had to be released from the vehicle by the fire service.”

A GIG contract from the early days of rock band Oasis requesting ‘soberspeaking’ venue staff, ‘24 large cans of quality lager’ and no fast food is set to go up for auction.

In the pantheon of musical diva demands, the listings seem modest, further specifying; four litres of still mineral water and 10 cans of assorted soft drinks, as well as fruit juices, teas and coffee.

A further line from the pre-performance contract, from a 1994 gig at The Old Trout in Berkshire, asking for ‘crisps, nuts, biscuits, fresh fruit (minimum of eight pieces),’ is scribbled out.

It goes on to read ‘a good quality, two-course hot meal (not fast food)’ for up to eight people should be laid on, and, if not, £6 per head to the tour manager so they can buy the band’s provisions.

The legal document also sets out that the venue management should provide

‘at least two able-bodied, sober-speaking persons to assist the (band’s) road crew’ in moving equipment and setting up the stage.

The Primary Talent International contract is for an Oasis gig at The Old Trout in Windsor, Berkshire, and was drawn up on April 18, 1994, a few weeks before the gig on May 7 that year.

The venue played host to other Britpop names of the era including chartrivals Blur, as well as Everything But

The Girl, Inspiral Carpets, Spiritualized and Pop Will Eat Itself.

The gig happened just three months before Oasis released their debut album Definitely Maybe, rocketing the group to chart-topping stardom, before eventually splitting in 2009.

The paperwork is set to go for auction at Hansons Auctioneers’ music memorabilia sale in Etwall near Derby, Derbyshire, on March 23.

Claire Howell, Hansons’ music memorabilia specialist, said: “Items like this are extremely rare and this lot comes with great provenance. It also includes a flyer advertising the gig.

“It’s valued at £1,000-£1,500 but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it sell for more. It could easily whip up a bidding frenzy among fans at auction, such is the enduring popularity and nostalgia for Oasis.

“The seller is a lady who worked in the music industry and amassed an interesting collection over the years.

“She is now looking to sell some specialist pieces ahead of retirement.

“She confirmed the contract was purchased directly from a man who organised gigs at The Trout at the time.

“Memorabilia linked to Britpop bands from the 1990s is gaining in value and UK groups don’t come much bigger than Oasis.

“The Gallagher brothers; Liam and Noel, have had an enormous impact on the music scene and Oasis songs still resonate with fans today, even though the group split more than 10 years ago.”

PUPILS at a primary school have been sent home after a positive Covid test at their school.

Parents with children in the Reception class at Westfield Community School in Wigan received a call yesterday morning telling them to collect them.

The closure comes just a day after schools in England reopened to all pupils in phase one of the easing of lockdown measures.

In a message sent to parents, headteacher Tim Sherriff said: “I am writing to inform you that pre-school Reg 2 will be closed to all pupils until further notice due to a positive lateral flow Covid-19 test result.

“We will contact you with further information, including a date when your child is permitted to return, as soon as possible.”

Primary school children are not being asked to take the lateral flow tests, only secondary and college students are being tested before heading back to class - and after a further two tests in school, they’re being asked to self-test at home twice a week.

One mum, who was asked to collect her child from the Worsley Hall school, said she was told the test related to a member of staff, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

She told the Manchester Evening News: “I took my kids in school this morning at 9am, then about half 11 I got a text to pick up. It’s not great when they’ve only just gone back in.”

School staff are being routinely tested with the lateral flow tests, which give results within 30 minutes.

Despite not being carried out on primary school children, every adult in a household with kids in education, no matter what their age - and the support bubbles of those kids - are being encouraged to test regularly at home.

The same applies to any household where there are primary or secondary school staff.
