Excellent news for Rochdale
ROCHDALE is eyeing an exciting future as a ‘centre of manufacturing excellence’ after it was awarded £23.6million from the government’s Towns Fund.
It means a number of ambitious plans drawn up by the Rochdale Towns Fund board are set to go ahead.
These include 700 new homes in central Rochdale as part of the regeneration of Lower Falinge, major improvement to the A58 at St Mary’s Gate and new medium-sized units at Kingsway Business Park.
The cash will also drive forward a proposal for more than 200 new homes at Central Retail Park. The first phase of the council’s station gateway project, it includes a mix of apartments and community facilities.
But it is the prospect of a new advanced machinery and productivity institute – or AMPI – which council leader Allen Brett describes at ‘the biggie’.
Paul Simkiss, chair of Rochdale’s Towns Fund board, said: “It’s a massive statement and it’s great for the town. It shows Rochdale is well on its journey in the right direction.”

Those who sleep well are less likely to develop heart failure, according to a study of more than 400,000 people followed for 10 years.
The quality of sleep was judged by insomnia, snoring, length of sleep, and feelings of sleepiness during the day.
Compared to people with the healthiest sleep scores, those with the lowest scores were nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with heart failure.
