THREE HELD ON DEATH OF DISABLED WOMAN
ARRESTS MADE ON SUSPICION OF MANSLAUGHTER
THREE people were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter through gross negligence after the death of a disabled woman, police said.
It followed the death of a 42-yearold woman at an address on Arley Grove in the Adswood area of Stockport on Monday afternoon.
Neighbours said the ambulance service arrived at the address first in the early afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police say they were alerted to a ‘sudden death’ at around 4pm.
Detectives arrived and began investigating the circumstances of the death at the property.
Forensics experts were seen entering the house and taking pictures.
Later in the evening, three people – a man aged 63, a woman aged 56, and a man aged 28 – were led from the property in handcuffs and put into a police van, neighbours said.
A neighbour who was watching on said the older man was shouting “They are arresting me, I’ve done nothing wrong!”
The 42-year-old woman who died has not yet been identified. But neighbours believe she used a wheelchair and had only been living in the property a short time.
“I think she’d lived there since lockdown,” said one neighbour.
“We’d see her going up the street in her wheelchair.”
Another neighbour said she hadn’t seen the woman since before Christmas.
The house appeared to remain empty yesterday, although detectives returned in the afternoon for a short period of time.
They appeared to be testing a set of keys in door locks on the house.
“Everybody is shocked,” said a neighbour. “It’s really sad.”
A cause of death has not been disclosed by police.
GMP said in a statement: “Police were called just after 4pm on Monday, March 22, to an address on Arley Grove, Stockport, to reports of a sudden death.
“Officers attended, and a 42-yearold woman was found dead.
“A 56-year-old woman, a 28-yearold man and a 63-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter through gross neglect and remain in custody for questioning.”
