City and United in fight for Kane

CITY AND UNITED ARE KEEN AS KANE HINTS AT SUMMER EXIT FROM SPURS

- By CHRIS OSTICK

CITY and United will be watching with interest after Harry Kane hinted he may look to leave Tottenham in the summer.

A transfer bidding war could erupt around Europe’s biggest clubs if the England skipper announced he wants to leave Spurs in the hunt for silverware.

With uncertainty over the future of Sergio Aguero, who is out of contract at the end of the season, the Blues will be linked with a move for a centre-forward.

Kane would arguably be a perfect replacement for the Argentine, having established himself as one of the world’s finest strikers in recent years, winning two Golden Boots in the Premier League.

However, Tottenham will be looking for at least £150m for their star striker and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland will be seen by many as the better option and would be cheaper too.

Kane has previously been linked with United. And with Edinson Cavani’s future beyond this season unknown, and doubts about the form of Anthony Martial, Kane could fit the bill at Old Trafford, although Ole Gunnar

Solskjaer is also keen on Haaland.

Kane, who moved closer to Wayne Rooney’s England goalscoring record by netting in the 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Albania last night, has raised questions over his Spurs future by failing to dampen down speculation over a move away from Joe Mourinho’s side.

“I think that’s a hard question to answer right now,” said the 27-year-old when asked by reporters about the speculation around his future.

“To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.

“I’m fully focussed on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer, and then we’ll see where we go from there.”
