Star expects ‘clip round ear’ in Tesco

RELATIONSHIPS in Coronation Street are never straightforward but fans of the soap have still been left divided over its latest affair.

Viewers will have seen Tyrone Dobbs confess to fiance Fizz Stape after sharing a kiss with former lodger Alina Pop.

From bumping into her at a yoga class and then offering to help her do up an old car she has bought, Tyrone and Alina have been finding themselves increasing drawn to each other.

Despite Tyrone’s betrayal, Fiz is determined to try and rescue their relationship and she tells Tyrone that Alina needs to move away.

But the mechanic soon realises his feelings for Alina are much more than just a fleeting romance and he is forced to make a choice that will destroy his family and break Fiz’s heart.

So it’s no surprise that Alan Halsall, who plays Corrie’s Tyrone, is expecting a certain kind of response next time fans see him out and about.

“As a character, it’s fantastic.

“We want to be part of big stories and as I said, this is a big story,” the 38-yearold told the Manchester Evening News.

“It was big twist to me and I’m hoping it’s going to be a big twist to the audience.

“I hope people are spitting out their cup of tea at half seven on a Monday night and say ‘what’s he doing now?’ “I’m sure I’ll get clipped round the ear in Tesco a few times for it but these are the stories we want to be involved in and I’m glad to be a part of it.” Alan also revealed what he thought when he first found out about Tyrone and Fiz’s upcoming love triangle. “Shocked, I’ll be honest,” he said when asked about his reaction.

“It came as a bit of surprise to be and of course, then you start to think of your own selfish things as an actor myself.”

And his selfishness is actually quite sweet.

“Myself and Jennie [McAlpine who plays Fizz] have known each other for 20 years and honestly, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t love working with that woman,” Alan said. “She is the most professional and just a joy to work with on a day-to-day basis.

“So you start to think, I don’t want that to go because I love working with Jenny every day and I love our stories.”

Alan joined Corrie back in 1998 when he arrived on the cobbles to move in with his mother Jackie’s old cell-mate Deirdre Barlow.

And 23 years later, Alan’s character is still a major part of Weatherfield.

“I still get people coming up to me in the supermarket,” he joked.

“I can’t seem to get away from my face, or my voice which is weird.”
