Muller: Pep can win the big one with any team

- By CHRIS WATSON

BAYERN Munich star Thomas Muller says he is surprised City are yet to win the Champions League under Pep Guardiola.

The German played under the Catalan at the Bundesliga giants, winning three successive league titles and two domestic cups.

The Champions League eluded Guardiola at Bayern, though, and it has continued to do so since he arrived at City in 2016, despite great success in the domestic competitions.

This season, the Blues are going for an unprecedented Quadruple. They remain 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, having already booked their place in the Carabao Cup final and the lastfour of the FA Cup.

They are also into the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they face German opposition in the shape of Borussia Dortmund and could face defending champions Bayern in the semi-finals.

“Pep came into the club after our big win (the Champions League and German double) in 2013,” said Muller.

“We had no time to rest on our success, because Pep kicked our a*** in every training session.

“A team with Guardiola is always in shape to win the Champions League.

“But the problem is in the knockout stage you have only two games and many crazy things can happen. It is more random than in 38 games like the Premier League.

“In the last two years, Liverpool was amazing but normally a good team with Guardiola wins the league, for sure.

“The way he prepares his teams, his team against smaller teams, he is the best.

“But when top teams play against each other, the difference is not big enough to put away the random facts.”
