Injury blow for on-loan Warriors outside back Hankinson

- By MATTHEW SHAW

ANOTHER Wigan Warriors outside back is on the sidelines after it emerged that Chris Hankinson has suffered a hamstring injury.

Hankinson, on loan at Championship side London Broncos, was a notable absentee as they suffered a 47-14 hammering at the expense of Halifax during the opening round of the season.

Initially, there were suggestions that his absence could be due to the Warriors planning to recall the goalkicker, something head coach Adrian Lam confirmed was a consideration for the club given their current injury problems.

The likes of Bevan French, Liam Marshall, Oliver Gildart and Dom Manfredi are all set to remain unavailable for at least another two weeks.

However Hankinson also has an injury that resulted in his absence from the Broncos’ defeat.

The 27-year-old has a hamstring problem that forced Danny Ward into resting the centre during their visit to The Shay.

London, who also had former Warrior Jarrod Sammut absent, endured a disastrous start without them.

The injury isn’t thought to be serious and Hankinson should be available for selection when they travel to face Toulouse Olympique in France next week.

When asked about recalling Hankinson, Lam said: “Chris is based and living down in London at the moment.

“It’s something that we’ll as a club look at in the next week or two but haven’t as of yet. It’s something we need to address.”

Wigan take on Championship side York City Knights in the Challenge Cup this weekend.

On another note, fellow Wigan loanee Amir Bourouh didn’t feature for Fax in the game, though that isn’t believed to be injury-related.
