Six more die with Covid in our hospitals

SIX more people with coronaviru­s have died in hospitals in Greater Manchester.

Three of the deaths occurred at Pennine Acute NHS Trust who run North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General, The Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

One was announced by the Manchester University Foundation Trust, which runs several of the city’s major hospitals, with one also recorded at both the Bolton and Wrightingt­on, Wigan and Leigh trusts. It brings the total number of people who have died from the virus in hospitals in our region to 5,842.

Nationally, a further 42 deaths were announced, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in

England to 86,476. A total of 11 of these occured in Midlands, eight in the North East and Yorkshire and five in London.

In a statement, the NHS said: “Patients were aged between 33 and 98 years old.

“All except two (aged 33 and 55 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

“Their families have been informed.”
