Pep had some nice words for me - but we’re not done yet

- By JOE BRAY

BORUSSIA Dortmund know they are still in their Champions League quarter-final tie with City, despite falling to a late defeat in the first leg at the Etihad.

Kevin De Bruyne put City ahead, and after a number of chances for both sides in the second half, Marco Reus scored what could still be an important away goal.

However, Phil Foden’s late strike ensured City travel to Germany next week with a 2-1 lead, and Reus says Dortmund are frustrated with conceding that second goal.

He told DAZN: “We’re annoyed. Conceding a second right before the end was unnecessary. Two seconds of us switching off and they showed their quality. We have to stop the cross coming in. On the whole, I think we produced a great performance.

“In the first half we didn’t show as much bravery as we did in the second half, which was better. It was an even game, City had more possession and a few dangerous chances, but we managed the game really well and it’s such a shame that this fight, energy and passion we brought to the pitch wasn’t rewarded.

“We fought until we couldn’t anymore. It’s extremely frustrating that we didn’t score more than once from the chances we had and then that we conceded a goal that feels avoidable late on.

“We played with fire a little bit. City are very clever and lull you into

a false sense of security which we saw with the first goal. The threat was there, but we played well with the ball, kept our calm and had a sense of security in our game. That was great, but we lost the game 2-1 and it doesn’t count for much.”

Head coach Eden Terzic also said he was disappointed with the first leg defeat, as he revealed Pep Guardiola’s warm words at full-time.

“We knew they’d be on the ball a lot and for long periods of time, but we wanted to try and determine where they would have the ball,” he said.

“We managed to do that very well. We kept their chances to a minimum and posed a threat ourselves when going forward. It was evenlymatched so we’re disappointed with the result in the end.

“Pep had some nice words for me at full-time, but we’re not done yet.”
