Teenager stabbed by ’men on bikes’

TWO ARRESTS AS BOY ‘SERIOUS BUT STABLE’ IN HOSPITAL

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was stabbed in a suspected gang attack.

Police said initial enquiries suggested a ‘small group of men on bikes’ were in the area around the time of the attack in Cheetham Hill.

The boy, who hasn’t been named, was taken to hospital from the scene with multiple wounds at 6.20pm yesterday.

His condition in hospital was described by Greater Manchester Police as ‘serious but stable.’

Police officers on patrol in a car came across the teenager lying injured on Smedley Lane, Cheetham Hill, and immediately gave him first aid.

The force said an ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds.

Two males have been arrested. Both were stopped on nearby Faraday Avenue and held on suspicion of assault.

They remained in custody last night for questioning.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly after 6.20pm on Tuesday, officers came across an injured teenager on Smedley Lane, Cheetham Hill, while on patrol in their vehicle.

“The boy – aged 16 – was given first aid immediately by officers before he was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment for suspected stab wounds.

“He remains in a serious but stable condition.

“Initial enquiries suggest a small group of men on bikes were in the area around the time of the incident and that a bladed weapon was involved.

“Two males were soon later stopped on nearby Faraday Avenue and were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.” No ages for them were given. No further details have been revealed.
