Pep full of praise for ‘top level’ Bern

BERNARDO Silva put in another exceptional shift to guide City to victory over Burnley.

But when manager Pep Guardiola congratulated him after the final whistle, the little midfielder looked unhappy about something.

He pointed towards the Burnley goal as Guardiola tried to congratulate him for another man of the match display.

And the boss later revealed what had tarnished another great day for Bernardo, who scored the opening goal for the Blues.

The Portugal star had a great chance to grab a second, but he hesitated, and Burnley recovered to snuff out the danger.

Guardiola said afterwards that he was upset because he wanted to set up a team-mate rather than grab the glory for himself when he should have taken the shot.

“Bernardo is an incredible person and he scored and was like ‘I scored a goal, I am going to give another one for my mate’.

“He is so generous in the effort the way he plays. He has to shoot, he knows it.

“We are incredibly lucky to have him. Only I want is his happiness. This type of person deserves the best.

“It is a joy as a manager to have him with us. He is in his top level right now.”

Guardiola agreed that one of the great beauties of Bernardo is that he hits the same level whether he is facing Chelsea or Liverpool on the one hand, or Burnley at home on the other.

“Yeah, he is in his best form alongside Rodri – both played incredibly well in the last four or five games,” he said.

“Bernardo is in the same level he played in the season when we won with 98 points and he was out of this world. He always gives us the extra touch we need to be together.”
