Bomb squad house swoop leaves residents in shock
RESIDENTS have spoken of their shock after the bomb squad descended on a house yesterday.
Police were alerted to ‘suspicious materials’ found inside a residential property on Charlestown Road in Blackley at about 1.35pm.
The incident prompted a large-scale response, with bomb disposal officers spotted arriving at the scene shortly afterwards.
A section of the residential street, which is lined with large semidetached houses, was taped off by officers.
The area cordoned off runs parallel to Boggart Hole Clough.
Police and bomb disposal officers were seen emerging from the property with several packages, one reportedly with tape and tubes of sealant.
Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that the materials found have been deemed ‘non-suspicious.’
Bomb disposal officers left the scene several hours after the 999 call was made.
Residents who live in the area expressed their shock as they watched the dramatic incident unfold.
An eyewitness said he saw police descend on a house near to the junction of Charlestown Road and Polefield Road. “I didn’t think much of it,” he said. “The next thing, the bomb squad was outside.
“This a residential area, so it’s quite upsetting to see something like that.”
Charlestown Road has now reopened to the public.
A spokesperson for GMP confirmed they had attended the address along with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. They added that following a thorough assessment of the materials, they were deemed not to be suspicious.
The spokesperson said yesterday: “At around 1.36pm today police were called with a report of suspicious materials found at a property on Charlestown Road, Moston.
“Officers attended as well as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
“Following assessment of the materials they were deemed to be non-suspicious.”
