We’ve had no running water for FIVE DAYS

- THANKS TO DELAY FIXING LEAK By ADAM MAIDMENT newsdesk@men-news.co.uk @MENnewsdesk

A WOMAN living in a block of flats which has been without running water for five days says she is living in a ‘nightmare.’

Anna Gronowska, 38, realised no water was coming out of the taps in her apartment in Stretford on Friday.

She later discovered the shared pump room on the ground floor of the building had water gushing out of it ‘like a waterfall.’

She said she first contacted the local utilities company, who told her that the pipes in the area were operating fine and that it could be an isolated incident relating to her building.

Anna then contacted Portland Block Management, who runs the building, and informed them of the problems at The Park apartments in Chester Road.

“We’ve been living without water since Friday,” Anna said. “It could be dangerous and it is a real worry that something worse could happen soon.

“This isn’t just a simple leak, it’s a waterfall that’s just flowing out everywhere – it’s a nightmare.”

Anna said the management company told her they had tried to fix the issues several times but contractors needed to be called out.

“I could understand if it took 24 or 48 hours to fix but it’s now five days and we still don’t have water,” Anna adds. “There are vulnerable and older people living in the building and I’m concerned that the flats nearest the water pipe could get water damage if it’s not sorted soon.”

The management company said the ‘complex’ problem had been caused by a fracture in the main water pipes. Equipment in the building’s pump room had also been ‘accidentally damaged.’

A spokesperson for Portland Block told the M.E.N : “This is an extremely complex job to remedy and has involved multiple contractors and repeated visits. “We have kept a timeline of all responses and ongoing work from the point the matter occurred.

“We have provided water during this period and have advised residents that we will continue to do so until the matter is resolved. “We have kept in contact with residents by phone, email and have also hand-delivered letters to each apartment.

“We are hopeful the matter will be brought to a close by tomorrow (Wednesday).”
