Blues side ‘is better than PSG’

- By STUART BRENNAN

THE man on the receiving end of City’s Champions League masterclass believes the Blues are better than the ‘superstars’ of Paris SaintGermain.

Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was beaten five times as City made up for their defeat at PSG last time to reclaim second place in the group, and keep their sights firmly on the French side.

And the former Liverpool stopper outlined why his team had been hammered by the Blues on their own patch despite holding - and nearly beating - a PSG team that boasts an astonishing forward line of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Brugge were above City before Tuesday night’s clash at the Jan Breydel Stadium, but goals from Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez (2), Kyle Walker and Cole Palmer made it a one-sided scoreline - and it could have been more.

Mignolet kept out the fabled PSG front trio on the opening match night, conceding only an Angel Herrera goal as the teams finished 1-1.

But he was helpless before the City onslaught.

“We have to accept the rualities of the other side, and the performers on the other team,” said the big Belgian.

“In the first 25 minutes we needed to keep control of the game but know that if you concede a goal against them, and concede another just before half-time, it is going to be a very difficult game.

“It is the first time that this group played against a team where there is quality across the pitch, throughout the whole team, not coming from three superstars.

“Especially in attack, they switch positions and danger comes from everywhere. It is the first time we actually had this challenge.

“This, for me, was a different challenge and a harder challenge against a better opponent than it was against Paris SaintGermain.”
