City goal hero Walker’s new signing - the match ball!

- By STUART BRENNAN

KYLE Walker wanted to get the match ball signed and take it home as a memento after breaking his Champions League scoring duck.

The City right-back was having a bit of fun after the team had hammered Brugge 5-1, with match-ball collecting normally reserved for hat-tricks.

But Walker was delighted to have scored his first goal in the competition, running onto a lovely Kevin de Bruyne pass to bury the ball in the far corner.

“I’m going to take the match ball home, it’s coming home with me!” said the England defender. “It’s a rare one. I didn’t have a Champions League goal until now so I’m going to take it, let the lads sign it and I’ll keep it in my house!”

Walker added he felt the third goal, which he scored, was an important moment in the game.

“Joking aside, it was important. 2-0 is always iffy. If they go and get one then our backs are against the wall a little bit but to get that one, be 3-0 up and get on the scoresheet was a good feeling.

“It gives the lads a bit of a safety net, we carry on and get the fourth and the game is kind of done then.”

Walker’s goal made him, incredibly, the 15th City player to get on the scoresheet this season. And Walker says sharing the goals around in the way City do is indicative of what the team is all about, adding: “I feel that’s what we are as a team.

“Over the five years that I’ve been here it’s not been one stand-out player throughout the season.

“Everyone has chipped in, everyone has dug deep when they’ve needed to dig deep and I think that’s the spirit of this team.

“We all work for each other and that brings the result that it did, with all the scorers that we had on the scoresheet.”
