Rashford’s a doubt for clash with Liverpool

MARCUS Rashford suffered a dead leg in United’s Champions League win over Atalanta and is a slight doubt for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.

The forward scored his second goal in as many games following his return from shoulder surgery in the 3-2 triumph, but was forced off in the 65th minute.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could not confirm if Rashford would definitely be available against Liverpool but expressed his delight at the 23-year-old’s fine form.

“I don’t know,” the manager replied when asked if Rashford would be ready for the Premier League fixture this weekend. “I hope so and I think so. It’s a dead leg. Sometimes that can take longer than what you want, but if we treat it well he should be okay.

“He’s worked really hard. His injury was, or [because of] the surgery, he couldn’t train with contact but he’s been training physically and now he’s physically robust.

“It’s about getting his football form back in. “Marcus is a natural talent but he wants to work on his game and he has worked without contact allowed and today he took us his goal really well.”

United have secured their last three wins through goals in the final ten minutes and Liverpool are yet to be beaten this season. United have now kept one clean sheet in their last 20 games as they prepare to face the Premier League’s top scorer, Mohamed Salah. “We need to defend better,” Solskjaer admitted. “I know that. It’s perceived we’re so inconsistent in general performance when you concede easy goals. Today, another couple of easy goals and we need to eradicate that.”
