Sancho assured he’ll play more in back four system

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has assured Jadon Sancho United’s back three system is not permanent.

Sancho has failed to tally a goal or an assist since his £72.9million summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund and has started the last four games on the bench.

The 21-year-old was dropped from the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Albania and San Marino by coach Gareth Southgate, who explained the decision was based on Sancho’s lack of playing time.

Sancho has played just 20 minutes since United’s 4-2 defeat at Leicester three weeks ago and was unused in the defeat to Liverpool and win over Tottenham.

“Jadon will play a lot of games.,” Solskjaer stressed.

“He will get better and better. In the last couple of games he has suffered from the system we have played but that will not be a permanent 3-5-2 team that we are always going to see, so you will see Jadon a lot, and he will do well for us.

“He knows what we want from him. I speak to him regularly, so that will be fine.

“We knew what we signed when we signed him and we know he will be one of the top forwards for many many years, the next decade at least.”

Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani could lead the line for United against Manchester City in the season’s first derby at Old Trafford today.

Ronaldo has scored nine goals in 10 starts for United this term and played in Cavani for his first goal of the season at Tottenham, where the pair lined up together for the first time.

Cavani and Ronaldo have a combined age of 70 and Solskjaer is

thrilled to have two of the most experienced goalscorers in Europe.

“We have not been able to play them together for too many games and, of course, those two players are two of the best centre forwards that have been in world football in the last 15 or 20 years,” Solskjaer said.

“They have a lot of respect for each other. They work well off each other. That’s something we hope to see more often and it will blossom.

“Sometimes we will have Marcus [Rashford], Mason [Greenwood], Jadon with one of them or maybe even none of them. I’ve got loads of forwards.

“Anthony Martial as well is one that always does really well, especially against Man City.”
