Talking BETTING with founder of betfred

- fred done

AS the saying goes, you can only beat the team in front of you, and that’s just what England did with bells on against San Marino.

Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions absolutely hammered the FIFA-ranked worst team in the world 10-0.

Betfred now have England as third favourites at 7/1 behind joint-favourites France and Brazil at 11/2 to win the World Cup.

It was very odd watching on Monday and wondering just how many goals we’d chalk up. Even with the changes and without Harry Kane for much of the second half, the goals kept flowing.

The biggest problem for Southgate next year could well be finding World Cup starting places for United’s Marcus Rashford and City’s Jack Grealish.

It’s going to be an interesting World Cup in Qatar for many reasons. I do think that, for once, we’ll be going into the tournament with our players fit and strong in November, rather than shattered at the end of a gruelling Premier League season.

Argentina look good value to me at 11/1 with Betfred – the same price as Belgium.

Meanwhile with the return of the Premier League, United are 4/9 to win at Watford on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo 9/4 to score the opening goal, while City are 1/7 to beat Everton at home with Phil Foden and Grealish joint 7/2 favourites with us to notch the opener.

Betfred have City back as odds-on favourites to be champions at 8/11 with Chelsea at 5/2 and Liverpool at 5/1.

The odds clearly indicate it will be between those three clubs as fast-improving West Ham are at 40/1 and Arsenal at 66/1 for the title - and as for United, well, they continue to drift from 5/1 a couple of months ago to 80/1 today.

Switching sports and Lewis Hamilton produced arguably the drive of his life to win the Brazilian Grand Prix at the weekend – and that’s put him among the front-runners in the race to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The public vote takes place next month and Hamilton, who came from 10th on the grid to triumph on Sunday, has been cut into 20/1 with Betfred to win the award.

He’s still way behind the new superstar of British tennis, Emma Raducanu, who remains the big favourite at 1/16. In second place is Olympic gold medal-winning diver Tom Daley, at 14/1.
