Wigan delight as victory gives title to Latics

-

WILL Keane’s brace sealed Wigan’s League One title as they recorded a 3-0 win at Shrewsbury.

Striker Keane ended the campaign as the division’s top goalscorer, taking his tally to 26, to beat Sunderland’s Ross Stewart who finished with 24.

The Latics cruised to the title to complete their promotion to the Championship, with Shrewsbury’s Josh Vela scoring an own goal to set the visitors on their way.

Keane’s double ensured Wigan took the points and the title, with Rotherham finishing second despite winning 2-0 at Gillingham - who, as a result, were relegated - thanks to Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Georgie Kelly.

Dion Charles’ brace set Bolton up for a 4-2 win over Fleetwood, with Declan John and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson also on target.

Barry Baggley and Joe Garner replied for Fleetwood, who remain in League One on goal difference

Rochdale were stunned by Bristol Rovers’ hat-trick hero Aaron Collins who snatched a 95th minute winner in a 4-3 thriller at Spotland.

Dale took a two-goal lead into the break after Luke Charman netted in the ninth minute and

added a second eight minutes later.

Sam Finley brought Rovers back into the game with a composed finish in the 53rd minute but Dale restored their two-goal lead on the hour mark when Matt Done teed up Corey O’Keeffe.

Rovers hit back when Antony Evans slid an intelligent delivery across the face of goal for Collins to convert. They then drew level in the 89th minute through Collins he clinched all three points in the 95th minute when turning home Elliott Anderson’s header.

Rovers’ Paul Coutts was sent off in the last few seconds during a melee in his own penalty area.

It was another bad day for Oldham Athletic as they lost 2-0 at Tranmere Rovers.

Salford City play Mansfield Town in a lunchtime kick-off tomorrow.
