E-scooter boy seriously hurt in ‘hit-and-run’
DETECTIVES are investigating after a teenage boy was seriously injured when he was knocked off an e-scooter in a suspected hitand-run.
The boy, 15, was being treated in hospital following the incident in Bury yesterday afternoon.
An 18-year-old man was also hospitalised after suffering ‘minor’ injuries, police said. He had his electric bike stolen following the collision, the force reported.
The pair were allegedly hit by a blue Ford Focus, which was recovered about three miles away on Hazel Avenue in Radcliffe. Police said that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and was being questioned.
Officers were scrambled to Stand Lane in Radcliffe after reports of a road traffic collision. Debris could be seen at the side of the road in the aftermath of the incident.
It’s understood the vehicle which hit the scooter did not stop at the scene. Stand Lane was closed for several hours as officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation
Unit combed the area for clues.
Investigations appeared to centre on an area on the street outside Bar 1, a pub on Stand Lane. Yellow evidence markers were placed by officers who also took photographs of the scene.
It’s understood that detectives are leading the investigation. They have appealed for members of the public with information or video footage to come forward.
Det Insp Alison Witkiewicz, of GMP’s Bury district, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation but are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to contact us.
“We are also appealing for anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage in the area of Stand Lane between the junctions of Beech Street and Walker Street between 2.15pm and 2.35pm today to share that with us. If you wish to share information or footage anonymously, this can be done via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A large cordon remained in place on the busy thoroughfare following the incident. Police taped off Stand Lane from its junctions with Hollinhurst Road and Rossall Avenue about half a mile away, near Stand Golf Club.
An inner cordon was also in place, encompassing Stand United Reformed Church, houses and a row of shops. Residents reported seeing police helicopters and air ambulance in the air.
