UNITED RATED

BY SAMUEL LUCKHURST

-

DAVID DE GEA

Some awkward moments against Brentford’s press but made a dependable stop from Christian Eriksen’s free-kick.

DIOGO DALOT

Eager as always but his end product was lacking. Hit the crossbar but Cristiano Ronaldo was offside in the build-up.

VICTOR LINDELOF

Key header when Eriksen was shaping to shoot and, although Brentford had spells, Reds kept a clean sheet.

RAPHAEL VARANE

Fortunate Ivan Toney did not punish him with a header but improved and scored his first goal for the club.

ALEX TELLES

Breached inside the first 10 seconds but recovered. Targeted at times but came up with assist from a corner.

NEMANJA MATIC

Produced a moment of class, alas Bruno Fernandes pulled his shot wide. Booked before he said farewell to Old Trafford.

SCOTT McTOMINAY

Fortunate to start after his show against Chelsea and he was not much better against another west London side.

ANTHONY ELANGA

Superb run and cross to assist Fernandes. Elanga is not as effective running backwards as he is forwards.

BRUNO FERNANDES

Relocated to the left and stealthily met Elanga’s cross to score his 10th goal of the season. Did little thereafter.

JUAN MATA

A joy to watch on his final Old Trafford appearance, enhanced United’s attack. Undeniably underused in last three years.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

Flexible off the ball and fluid on it, was denied a goal by the slenderest of margins. Still got his goal with the penalty.

SUBSTITUTES

FRED: (Matic, 71) Looked in decent nick on his comeback. 6

PHIL JONES: (Mata, 75) Possibly his last Old Trafford appearance. 6

EDINSON CAVANI: (Elanga, 75) Another who bade farewell. 5

NOT USED: Bailly, Rashford, Lingard, Henderson, Fernandez, Garnacho
