Blues’ new signing sees Shear fear for the rest

- By LIAM WOOD

ALAN Shearer admits the signs are ominous for would-be challengers to City and Liverpool, with both clubs already making their mark in the summer transfer window.

Having missed out on Harry Kane last summer, the Blues have signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool responded by offsetting the sale of Sadio Mane by recruiting Benfica forward Darwin Nunez.

Haaland bolsters a City side that scored 99 goals in the Premier League last season, while Nunez fired 34 goals in 41 outings.

And Shearer - who tops the Premier League’s all-time scoring charts with 260 goals is excited to see that battle within a battle evolve next season.

He said: “They are two huge signings and two fantastic players. I’m certain both will score a lot of goals in the Premier League and I’m certain both will make their clubs better.

“I have seen bits of them in the Champions League obviously and they are two fantastic players. It’s great for the Premier League that those clubs are able to attract that type of player and I look forward to watching them a lot next season.

“That’s what happens [the best teams get better]. They both had success last season.

“When you win things, you’ve got to go out and strengthen and City wanted a forward last season when thy tried to get [Harry] Kane.

“They didn’t get him and have gone on and signed another huge player.

“Liverpool, with the turn-over of Mane, also had to bring someone big in to try and replace him, because he has been an unbelievable player for Liverpool and they have tried to do that.”
