Rashford is delighted it’s home start for United

- By GEORGE SMITH

MARCUS Rashford is delighted to be playing at home on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign.

United, who will fly to Thailand on Friday for the start of their pre-season tour, will welcome Brighton to Old Trafford on Sunday, August 7 for Erik ten Hag’s first competitive game in charge.

It is the sixth season in a row the Reds will start the campaign at home.

And the opening day visit of Brighton could not have pleased Rashford more.

The United academy graduate has described being at home for the first competitive game of the Ten Hag era as ‘massive’, but has warned that the players must continue listening to the new boss on the training ground before even thinking about getting the season off to a winning start.

“Yes, it is a great feeling,” Rashford said.

“To have the first game at Old Trafford is massive and I don’t think the lads would have it any other way.

“It feels like it has been ages since we played our last game and wore the shirt.

“That game (against Brighton) is going to be an amazing feeling, but until then we have to listen to the coach, work hard in training and make sure we are doing our best to be in good condition to win that game because that is the important thing.

“Come that first game of the season, we have to be ready and give our best version of ourselves.”
