RASH GOAL SEES HIM PAST ROO IN RECORD BOOKS

-

MARCUS Rashford has broken a number of personal records this season and has now matched a feat recorded by Wayne Rooney 13 years ago.

The England star is enjoying the most prolific campaign of his career having netted 28 goals so far. He could be the first United player to break the 30-milestone since Robin van Persie in the 2012/13 title-winning season.

He’s already matched the feats of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2016/17 and Bruno Fernandes during the 2020/21 campaign with his current tally, having netted 20 times since the World Cup.

In January, the 25-year-old equalled Dennis Viollet’s 64-year record of scoring in nine consecutive United home games when he converted the winner against City, the Reds winning 2-1. And on Wednesday, he continued his fine form by netting the only goal in the 1-0 victory over Brentford.

The strike means he has now scored 10 winning goals this season – a record Rooney managed to produce during the 2009/10 season.

Among others, Rashford has scored the decisive goals against Real Betis, Arsenal and Liverpool this season and the striker said he is enjoying his football under Erik ten Hag.

“I’m enjoying myself, the main aim for me is just to keep trying to win football matches for the club and try and get as deep into the season as we can,” he said post-Brentford.

“We need to try and get as many points as we can. We know the two teams at the top are running away with it a little bit but it’s important for us and our own growth and development to keep winning games and see how many points we can finish on at the end of the season.”
