Hospital lift death tragedy family: ‘We want answers’
Dad-of-one was killed as he carried out maintenance
THE family of an engineer killed as he worked on a hospital lift hope an inquest will provide answers about how he came to die.
Dad-of-one Sandy Noble was fatally injured at the Royal Oldham Hospital in 2021.
The 33-year-old, who had been working as an engineer for two years, was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been carrying out repairs. The Health and Safety Executive,
paramedics and Greater Manchester Police were called.
Sandy’s loved ones, including his partner Carley Holden, 35, and mum Carol Biggins, 56, hope an inquest into his death, scheduled to begin tomorrow, will provide them with answers.
Carley said: “Sandy was the best dad to our son Jayden, who adored him. He was loved by everyone and his death has left a huge hole in our family.
“To this day, I still struggle to accept that I’ll never see or speak to Sandy again. Our lives haven’t been the same since we lost him. It’s horrible to think that our son now has to grow up without his dad.
“While I know nothing will ever bring Sandy back, I hope the inquest, however difficult it may be, will provide us with answers so we can honour Sandy’s memory.”
Lawyer Claire Newstead of Irwin Mitchell, representing the family of Sandy, who was from Scarborough, said: “Sandy’s death continues to have a profound effect on his loved ones who understandably remain devastated.
“Their grief is made all the worse as they still have a number of questions and concerns over the events leading up to Sandy’s death.
“While nothing will ever make up for their loss, we’re determined to support Sandy’s family and help them obtain the vital answers they deserve.”
The inquest will be held at Rochdale Coroners’ Court and is scheduled to last five days.
David Jago, chief officer for the Royal Oldham Hospital, said at the time of the tragedy: “Investigations are ongoing to understand the circumstances surrounding the accident and to ensure the area is safe.
“This news has come as an awful shock to everyone who works at the hospital and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and colleagues.”
