DEADLINE DAY!

-

Pete tells MATCH what it’s like to work as a Sky Sports News presenter on Deadline Day!

THE EXPERIENCE!

PETE SAYS: “It’s different every time! This year was quite calm but it always has the potential to get more stressful late on. There have been Deadline Days where stories are coming in left, right and centre and at that point it can be tricky to keep on top of everything, but it’s also where Deadline Day gets really exciting!”

ANY DIFFICULTIES?

PETE SAYS: “Keeping on top of what’s true and what’s not is tricky. A lot of information flies around on Deadline Day that isn’t true. It’s checking with the right people, the clubs, the players and their representatives, making sure we tick all the boxes!”

BREAKING A STORY!

PETE SAYS: “Our reporters and presenters contact people within the game. A player’s representative might give you a tip saying that this player might be moving to this club, but we wouldn’t report it at that stage. We then have to try to confirm it!”

CRAZIEST D-DAY?

PETE SAYS: “One that sticks in my mind was Dimitar Berbatov moving from Spurs to Man. United. It was right at the end of the window and we got shots of him getting shown around Old Trafford. The Spurs fans were gutted and the Man. United fans were really excited!”

NEW TRENDS?

PETE SAYS: “There was a time when Deadline Day was when clubs seemed to do most of their business. I think they’ve realised they’re going to pay more if they leave it to the last minute. A lot of clubs did business early this year!”
