SWITCHBACKS

-

For a slightly more technical switchback there will usually be a choice of lines. The obvious line will be straight up the middle of the trail but end up taking you wide. There might be a higher line where people think they are setting up better, but ultimately end up back on the main line for the corner. And there will be a high line that keeps you high later than you think. This is the one that you should consider. Staying high later means that you can open up the corner by dropping in and aiming for a late apex. You can still brake to curb your acceleration as you lose the height, but make sure you are off the brakes as you get to the level ground otherwise you’ll be overdoing the grip. Too much speed will force you wide. Be patient and allow the final part of your descent to drive you round the corner. Stay low and pay attention to the amount of grip you have. You’ll likely be backing away from the pressure here to stay within your available limits of grip.

n LINE High to open out corner, late apex. n POSITION Low and ready – follow the front of your bike. n PUSH Only if traction allows.
