PEMBREE R1V PEDAL £199

- Pembree.com

A couple of years back we wrote a piece on the most environmentally friendly mountain bike products. Sure, it featured nine interesting items, but we had to scratch around to find them with most brands and consumers apparently happy with the status quo. In 2021 something has shifted though, more brands put their green credentials front and centre when launching something new, packaging is noticeably better, and there are more companies than ever building their reputations on sustainability.

Take Prembree, it’s a UK manufacturing company that for now just makes pedals.

The factory in Heathfield, East Sussex, runs exclusively on solar and wind power, and its products are carbon neutral… and that includes delivery.

Carbon neutral isn’t enough for Pembree though, it has plans to be negative soon, extending its tree planting scheme. They’re also running a #Pedals4pedals scheme, send in your old or broken pedals from any manufacturer and Pembree will recycle them for you and dish out a 10 per cent discount on new stuff.

Prembree’s first pedal is the R1V, it’s 99.9 per cent recyclable, and built to last from aerospace grade aluminium and SKF sealed ball and needle bearings, backed up by a five-year warranty. It’s a pedal designed for e-bikes, but don’t let that put you off, the term speaks for its robust construction and responsible components, the brand says.

There are two body colours to choose from and replaceable sections of the pedal for added grip are available in six colours. You also get steel pins and a steel spindle.
