Big picture
A pre-dawn frost adds an otherworldly edge to the ancient lava strewn carelessly on the ground near the summit of Raise in the Lake District. The normally far-reaching views were nonexistent that morning, shrouded by thick clouds laying heavy on the hostile terrain, as the weak, early morning sun did little to disperse the gloom. Although the gradient here is relatively mellow, the going is anything but, and demands full focus to stay on track.
