Anything Back-on-track has been working on is worth a look at, and the latest project from the trail building maestros is at the Miners’ Welfare Park, in Bedworth. Back-on-track has brought us some gems over the years, from the original Bikepark Wales tracks to claiming Lee and Cragg Quarry for mountain bikers. This time the team has been busy on a former golf course, sculpting up some urban trails. The project is a small trail centre, work is progressing on a green, a blue and a red trail, with a small skills area too.

“For part of the blue trail, to make the most of the elevation on offer, we’ve revisited a concept we came up with many years ago for a project in Lordship

Lane, Tottenham,” explains James Watkins from Back-on-track. “It’s a pump trail. It’s not a pump track, it’s not a trail, it’s somewhere in-between the two.”

What’s the difference? The rollers are less aggressive and slackened off a little in comparison to a pump track, the idea being they work well for a full suspension mountain bike. “The layout is like a small looping trail,” says James, “all totally rollable, but if you know what you’re doing, there are a few jump options. And there’s a stone dust finish to the track.”

The hope is to get all the track work finished by the time you read this, in January 2022.
