6 WEST KERNOW WAY, CORNWALL
A new long-distance route opened up late in 2021 called the West
Kernow Way, it’s not a gnar-fest like Aberdeenshire but it’s a totally new way to see Cornwall off-road by bike. At 230km you’re probably looking at a multi-day ride too (unless your legs are made of steel). It starts out in Penzance and traverses the county in a figure of eight using bridleways, byways, quiet roads and ‘lost ways’. The WKW takes in rugged coastlines, old miners’ tracks and various olde worlde sites. Cycling UK has worked for over a year developing and consulting on the trail, including site surveying and recceing the route to bring about the right balance between adventure and challenge. The route’s development has been made more difficult, as the cycling charity has had to delve into the archives for old maps as it hunted for lost ways away from normal roads.
