PEATY’S BICYCLE BRUSH SET £32.99

-

No, the great man has not branched out into his own line of domestic cleaning products, what you see here are bike brushes. (They’d do pretty well flexing round the u-bend, mind you.) They’re different to the rest of the scrubbers out there though. Peaty says instead of just labelling up any old existing products with his name, these four brushes have been developed over two years, specifically for mountain bikes and designed to get round those annoying omissions most brushes have.

Take the Bog Brush. Yes, it’s really called that. It has 360° bristles that are soft enough to save your wiper seals, yet tough enough to scrape off muck. Now why didn’t anyone else think of that? Then there’s the Detailer brush, it’s crimped from medium-density bristles made from post-consumer plastic, and should fit nicely into most of the crevices of your bike. Best of all, the tip is made from super-soft cotton to prevent scratches.

The Drivetrain brush looks the most interesting. For starters it’s set at a wonk so you can get close to the cassette without skinning your knuckles, while the bristles are longer at the edges of the pad so your chain settles neatly into the middle and gets sloughed on three sides. Dazzling. Finally, there’s a Tyre Brush, although we have no idea who bothers to clean their tyres… disagree? Email in and tell us we’re wrong, lazy and dirty.

With beech handles and plastic bristles, you’ll probably be wondering why Peaty didn’t go all natural. That was the idea, apparently, but natural fibres were either too soft, too stiff or not durable enough, so he settled on recycled plastic. Fair dos.
