MBR Mountain Bike Rider

MAN AND BOY

- Luke Hughes Yoshi Gilchrist Lewis Bradley Brendan Berry

I can’t believe it’s been 25 years since the first issue of mbr. I was a young lad just into mountain biking when it came out and I liked the mix of mtbs and general laddish culture. I also remember there was a free video (LOL) with a random assortment of adrenaline sports. All jolly good fun!

Things have changed a lot since then (probably for the best). I dropped off the biking radar for a few years (kids, marriage... usual stuff) but have recently renewed my subscription and am trying to get out as many Sunday mornings as I can, though it’s definitely more of a challenge now than it used to be with the obligations of family life.

It’s great to see that mbr has stood the test of time and still appeals to the bloke in his forties that started reading in his late teens. Shame this reader has not aged so well!

Here’s to the next 25 years... Keep up the good work guys!

Ed - thanks Steve, you really know how to butter us up. More of that please. Have a jacket.

We brought you news of an innovative device to strap your helmet to the bike for climbing. Facebook said…

So. We spend years devising ways to clear up the cockpit and make it… cleaner... only to start cluttering it up with more crap?

Great for long fire road climbs and storing a removable chin bar, just tried it the other day on the North Shore. Chill out folks, don’t talk shit about something you haven’t tried yet. It’s not a necessary piece of kit but it does provide a solution for certain types of rides/ riders’ comments: “I don’t

understand it so it must be stupid. Errr durrr where’s that cave I crawled out from...”

You can still have a serious injury, I know someone who split their head riding uphill on a fire road. Most helmets have enough vents in them now. I have raced a World Series enduro and never took my full-face off once and didn’t need to.

Enduroooooooooooo as fk
