Activate Plan B

Covid put us on the backfoot but we’ve been busier than ever

- Editor, mbr

It had to happen sooner or later. After two years of (mostly) dodging the virus, Covid well and truly thrust its proverbial stick in the mbr editorial spokes this month, with Alan confined to bed for several days, and Jamie’s family catching it at the same time as he was nursing a severe tooth infection. All of which means we had to make some last minute changes to our plans for this issue. Instead of a full-blown bike test, we had to fall back on the (thankfully abundant) store of new bike first rides that had been accumulating in our larder. Hence our ‘Hottest New Bikes’ section starting on p35.

Somewhat paradoxically, while cases seem to be spiralling out of control, there has been a noticeable return to normality elsewhere. So far this month I’ve been to one bike show and three foreign bike launches, while this summer’s events calendar is already looking absolutely jam-packed. With that in mind, I’d love to hear about your plans for the coming months, whether that’s a classic route you want to tick off, a big race you’ve been training for or even a meet-up with old riding buddies you haven’t seen in two years. Drop us a line at mbr@futurenet.com. As for me, well I really want to ride somewhere in the mountains this summer. And I don’t really care where as long as it’s got great trails and a chairlift!
