MBR Mountain Bike Rider

Big picture

- Tristan Tinn

Recently I’ve been on and off the bike for three months with a broken wrist, which went on to need surgery, it’s undoubtedly made me question the sport. Reflecting on riding bikes, I realised giving it up would mean more than just losing physical activity or fixing a hole in my wallet. It would mean losing friends, fear, excitement, thinking time and breathing space. Bikes intertwine our lives so intimately; physically, socially and culturally – what a beautiful thing that is. This image was taken on Helvellyn in the interlude between the initial injury healing and needing surgery. Despite poor conditions the ride was a reminder that this ‘juice’ is worth the squeeze.
