How we test
We’ve looked at three things in this test – fit, venting and adjustability. To test the fit, the first thing is to get the right size because sizing isn’t universal across brands – some companies offer individual sizes (small, medium and large), others opt for extra mid-sizes like small/medium or medium/large. There is overlap, so try before you buy. Also your head shape can determine what size you need – some helmets (and heads) are round, others are more oval. Venting involves back-toback testing in the same conditions, figuring out which best channels in air and which cooks your head like an egg. And finally, adjustability - we checked out the range of adjustments on offer, from peak adjustments to pad thickness options.
