Normally when you get the Evo tag on a product, it implies a slightly more aggressive attitude and, while you could argue wearing kneepads is just that, the Scott Mission Evo offers only lightweight protection.

At 116g per pair, it’s the bantamweight in this category but it does use quite a large EVA foam protector that extends down either side of the knee. It’s also articulated, with indents either side that fold together, creating a sort of L-shape over the top of your knee when it’s fully bent, so that part feels comfortable. Unfortunately, Scott has also shaped the EVA so it tapers to a flat edge and, while this is fine at the top and sides, some testers complained that the bottom edge dug in and irritated the skin. There’s also some stitching on the inside and that can be quite abrasive too.

On the thigh there is a wide elastic band with silicone grippers inside and this is tacky without being too severe.

The body of the Mission is mostly Lycra with a scuffresistant material over the EVA. It has good breathability due to the lightweight fabric and never felt clammy. The pad is left and right-specific and comes in four individual sizes, allowing you to get a good fit.

The Mission Evo is a lightweight, low-profile design that’s ideal for riders that don’t like wearing kneepads. It weighs next to nothing and can easily be removed and carried in a pocket or pack. Protection is limited to scuff protection and maybe smaller impacts, though. We wouldn’t wear these to race an EWS, but for everyday UK trail riding they’re impressively minimal and totally stable.
