‘Get home from work and go for a blast. Lovely stuff’

Our man reckons we should stop moaning and just get out more

- MCN COLUMNIST JOHN McGUINNESS

Have you heard all these people moaning about it being too hot recently? Seriously? What on earth is that all about? I even saw someone the other day saying it was too hot to ride a motorbike at a trackday.

Too hot to ride a motorbike? Don’t be so bloody daft. it’s perfect weather for riding a motorbike, isn’t it? As long as you make sure that you hydrate yourself and get plenty of water through your system it’s absolutely fine. The weather

‘I GUESS THE ONLY DANGER IS THAT IT DOES INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE’

has been absolutely lovely so far this summer (and long may it continue). I really can’t think of a better reason to get out there on a bike and revel in the simple pleasures of man and machine. It’s a good excuse to drag your mates out, too.

The only danger with all this heat on a trackday is that it does increase confidence a lot. The tyres feel extra grippy when it’s really hot so you push and push, which makes a crash more likely. You do see so many blokes over-tired towards the end of a trackday, wobbling about a bit, but it’s not because of the heat in itself, it’s because they’ve not managed their day properly, not taken sufficient rests from riding or haven’t been drinking enough water at the track.

How can anybody who rides a bike not enjoy this weather? You are almost guaranteed a dry day at the minute. How is that a bad thing? Just stick your cooler gear on and get out there (just make sure whatever you do choose to wear is going to keep you protected).

I’ve never seen so many bikes on the road, it’s brilliant. Lads are getting home from work and going straight out for a spin. Why wouldn’t you?
