Best ride The back roads to work. The 20-mile twister is perfect for the 195kg Zero and it comes into its own, punching out of corners.

Longest day Silverston­e and back to Peterborou­gh to meet some fellow electric bike owners. I was down to 0% charge when I rolled into the track after 57 miles. A careful ride results in one mile for one per cent. What hurt first? My head. Worrying about where the next charging point was.

Anything to confess? I rode it round the MCN office.

High point Meeting other electric owners who had it sussed. They knew the best apps and places to charge. Low point Riding the last three miles into Silverston­e with the battery showing just 2% and going into ‘limp’ mode on the A43.

What do you most admire?

It’s light and handles well. What’s it really good at?

Everyday riding. It’s effortless. And really bad at? Anything over 100 miles. It takes eight hours to charge up after that. What’s broken or fallen off? The left-hand mirror came loose. What irritates? Riding any distance requires planning. Tell us a secret It takes two minutes to clean.

What did you think at the beginning? I thought it would be perfect for commuting.

And what do you think now? I want to do more than 120 miles in a day every now and then. This bike makes that difficult.
