THE INSIDE STORY

-

1 Measuring up Abba take measurements of every new bike’s swingarm pivot points and if necessary design a new end to allow the stand to fit. New ends cost under £25 and abba make over 150 variations.

2 Machining The ends are CNC machined before being zinc plated. They are made of mild steel so they don’t mark the bike.

3 Metal stock ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) box-section steel is delivered pre-cut from a British supplier.

4 Bending and drilling Parts such as the stand’s feet are cut from 6mm steel and then bent using a fly-press if required. Any holes for fixings are cut and tapped with a thread.

5 Joining the dots One welder can make roughly 40 stands a day. Once welded the stands are ground to give them a smooth finish.

6 Stand and deliver Having been powdercoated red by a local firm, the stands are assembled.
